Style Edit: The Trench Coat
Classic, timeless trenches, but also modern car coats, a vintage leather bordeaux red style and short versions - to see you through spring (and autumn)
Did anyone else living in the northern hemisphere breathe a huge sigh of relief yesterday? We made it. It’s officially spring. I for one can already feel my endorphins rising. I even left the house yesterday in shoes and no socks, for the first time in nearly six months (evening wear excluded) - a wonderful feeling and the perfect way to christen the change in season.
But not so fast - the weekend forecast in Paris is dropping again; chance of rain. So despite the blossoms being out in full force, I won’t be disregarding my warmer layers just yet. We are in that tricky in-between phase (that likes to change its mind on a whim) - not cold enough for a winter coat, but not quite warm enough to rely on a denim jacket (although admittedly I did wear one once this week, albeit over layers - mine is nicely oversized to accommodate said layers). And so I’ve been wearing the coat style that is so intrinsically linked with Parisian style (and Burberry) : the trench. And I’m likely to for the next month or so, until I know for sure that I won’t get caught out feeling chilly. Now whilst the classic is still as popular as ever, its design has morphed somewhat over the years to also include more modern styles, such as the car coat, which I’ve been personally wearing more and more, and shorter versions, which is why you’ll find those here too.
Before temperatures do indeed rise, I thought I’d share my edit (one I hope that Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face, would approve of) of the best on the market (in different styles and ranging in price) that you can wear now, again in September when the climate cools (or now, for those of you in the southern hemisphere going into autumn), and for many years to come!

Short trench by House of Dagmar - I love this short style in chocolate brown, which if you remember from previous articles, is a colour I’ve been wearing a lot of!
Acne trench coat - an unusually classic piece for Acne, but they still put their sartorial stamp on it with the caped shoulder; a stylish added twist.
Rohe classic trench coat - I love the wide lapel and belt, for those who love a more oversized, relaxed style (myself included).
