Hello from Paris and my new (newsletter) home! I’m still finding my feet here, so please be patient with me - it is likely to change in the coming weeks as I get settled into this new platform and figure out its workings, but for now I’m going to continue sharing news and my favourite finds for your home and wardrobe on a Thursday.
I want to say a huge thank you to those of you who have already signed up to my new membership and community, The Insider. It’s been incredibly nerve-wracking launching something new (literally like throwing myself off a building and hoping I land on something soft), so your support is hugely appreciated and I hope to see more of you on the inside soon.
My first piece of exclusive content is dropping tomorrow and it’s covering my edit of the best places & brands to shop for interiors in Paris and online. It’s a bumper-pack of sources to dog ear for your next trip to the city or if you live here and are looking for unique items to fill your home with. Plus many can be shopped online if you don’t have plans to visit any time soon. I’ve spent a long time scouring my huge list of saves and Paris notes, so get ready for your insider access.
If you follow me over on Instagram, you’ll know that we spent this past weekend painting our bedroom (details below). I’ve been planning this for months, but getting the Parisian onboard was not so easy - whilst he’s now a dab hand with a drill after putting the shelves up in our second bedroom/bureau, he could think of a myriad of other things he’d rather be doing on the weekend. Me too for that matter, but I’m a little more seasoned in the painting department (having painted many walls over the years), and I knew what a difference it was going to make to our space. Plus after talking about it for months I just wanted to get the job done, even if it meant enlisting the reluctant Frenchman. (Hilariously though, following the experience and seeing the result, he commented casually in French ‘I think the living room won’t be that hard to do, it will certainly be easier than the bedroom” - you can imagine the look on my face that after all his complaining, he was now suggesting we tackle the largest space in our home. Perhaps I have a painting convert after all!).
But back to our bedroom, which we painted using Farrow & Ball ‘Joa’s White’ in their new Dead Flat finish. It’s north facing, meaning it doesn’t get any natural light, so I was looking for a shade of white with some warmth to it, without going full sunshine yellow. It couldn’t have turned out better and I’m so pleased with the result! Our sleeping space is finally starting to resemble the five star hotel room I had in mind. North facing rooms are particularly tricky to get right. With no natural sunlight streaming in, a standard white will look rather grey and feel very cold, so you need to go for something with some warmth to it. I’d also recommend Farrow & Ball ‘Cord’ if you want to push the yellow tone up a few notches.
It’s not quite finished - we need to paint the radiator and door, change the wardrobe doors (I’m going to have some new ones made and painted the same colour as the walls), re-hang the curtain with a new rod and add the light fixture; I sourced the most beautiful vintage glass and chrome plafonnier (ceiling light) - but the hard part is done.

Finally, I’ve had a few questions about the items in our bedroom so I’m sharing them here:
The white and green striped tissue box is by Alice Palmer, the bedside lamps are vintage with a lampshades from Watt & Veke, the bedside tables are also vintage (probably my best find - I snapped the pair up for 300€ and they’re easily worth 1000€ as they have beautiful marquetry detailing and marble tops), the striped bedding is from Toast (I love their bedding - I also have this linen/cotton mix style), the scalloped cushion is from Anthropologie, the velvet throw is also from Toast, the headboard is re-upholstered in Schwarzwald ‘verdure’ by Dedar, the striped glass is from 94Editions, the travertine lamp base is vintage and the chair is from Srelle.
Until next week! Marissa xx
