Spring is finally here! What a difference it makes, just knowing that and walking outside to milder temperatures. For those of you in the southern hemisphere (hi! there are quite a few of you here now and I’m so happy you are!) it must feel a little weird me writing this as you’re going into autumn, but I imagine you too are enjoying the change in season!?
I know I probably say this after every winter, but this one felt like the longest, gloomiest and dullest one since I moved to the French capital. We barely saw the sun for weeks on end. I think there was even an article published in the French press about the lack of sunshine. But these past two weeks, with the arrival of blue skies, sun rays and warmer temperatures, especially yesterday - the balmiest day we’ve had this year so far - something felt like it had shifted; Parisians were out in the sunshine, sitting on teraces, wearing more colourful, brighter clothing and there was that positivity in the air that spring brings.
I opened our door to our terrace all afternoon, whilst working to let in some mild fresh air and even Indy ventured out on her own to investigate the plants, which I’m happy to report have started sprouting little green buds. She is a little scared of the terrace door (by the noise it makes when it creaks open - a little trauma left over from life in a refuge), so rarely goes out there alone, but the opportunity to bask in the sunshine was too tempting even for her - one of her favourite things to do - and clearly made her feel braver than usual!
I too feel like a new person when spring arrives, and like I can do anything. And yesterday I did - I moderated a talk (my first time doing so) in front of an audience of +60 guests, along with representatives and friends from Hennessy, Loewe and Tiktok about the future of brands. And I really enjoyed it. Anyway I digress - back to the matter in hand, my spring wardrobe. As soon as the days get sunnier, longer and the temperatures a little warmer, I begin peering into my clost and start mentally preparing myself for the big swap: packing winter items away into our lit coffre (lift up bed), airing out my spring/summer wardrobe and and assesing what I might like to add to it. This season I’m inspired by collections such as Gucci Cruise 2025 and Carven SS24 - sheer, lightweight clothing in beige, pastel and pops of brighter colour and have my eyes on fun prints such as snake, leopard and cow.
Things I look for when purchasing new items:
Items that complement what I already have - a bright oversized shirt to team with my favourite pair of white jeans and a fun top, I’m loving the polo shirt trend right
Items that elevate what I already have - accessories, such as shoes, bags and jewellery that add colour and interest, along with an unexpected personal touch to a more simple and minimalist look
Basic updates - white tee, black tee, striped top, a light weight knit I can layer with
Lighter knits
And then one fun hero piece that will put a pep into my wardrobe - like an interesting skirt, tee or piece of jewellery
My must-haves for this spring:
A light-coloured every day bag (one that I can fit my laptop in)
Slip-on flats, mocassins and fun trainers
A trench or lighter-weight jacket that is still warm enough on cool days - I’ve been wearing this jacket every day since it was delivered, along with a knit thrown over my shoulders
Lighter colours - beige, cream, white, sky blue, butter yellow (this season’s colour)
Snake print, leopard print and cow print
Boat shoes
Suede everything from jackets, to shoes
And so here is my wishlist - a collection of trusted brand favourites and a few new names that I’ve been loving lately, along with fun jewellery and accessories to add more personality my minimal outfits.
